  • The growing awareness of students about their own creative and entrepreneurial potential. Students have a chance to test their skills during the education in practical entrepreneurial ventures;

  • Local companies and entrepreneurs gain the opportunity to employ creative and enterprising young people in the future and thus improve and their own business.

Implementation Method

Both sectors (education and local business) will plan the activities before the school year starts. They identify where they can support each other and create value for each other. This will create better coherence between theory and practice in the entrepreneurial education.

Stakeholders that lead/implement the measure are: Ministry of education, local communities in city of Belgrade, local schools and local companies.

Final beneficiaries: There are three main beneficiaries :

  • Students
  • Teachers in schools
  • Local companies.

Developing a co-ordinated entrepreneurial education programme across elementary, high schools, and universities in Belgrade region. The goal is that all young people can access high quality of entrepreneurial learning at all educational levels in cooperation with local companies.

Activities

  • Preparation of teaching materials through which acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes defined in the national standard of entrepreneurial competence. Teacher trainings in order to create appropriate learning content and teaching methods that are best in practice.
  • Establishing a functional relationship with the local business sector and exchange of knowledge and experiences between schools and the business world, through the visits of employees to schools as well as visits of students and professors to enterprises or business-oriented events

  • Preparation of teaching materials through which acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes defined in the national standard of entrepreneurial competence. Teacher trainings in order to create appropriate learning content and teaching methods that are best in practice.

The required funds include additional engagement of teachers, financial and logistical support of the municipalities and funds in time and personnel that provide local businesses pro bono.

  • Students to identify their own creative and entrepreneurial potential and the opportunity to directly participate in entrepreneurial activities.
  • Local entrepreneurs (individuals and companies) to share their knowledge and practical experience in their local environment and contribute to its development in the business community.

Belgrade Educational Entrepreneurial Community enables:

  • Teachers to acquire adequate knowledge about effective ways of acquiring entrepreneurial competencies;
  • Students to identify their own creative and entrepreneurial potential and the opportunity to directly participate in entrepreneurial activities.
  • Local entrepreneurs (individuals and companies) to share their knowledge and practical experience in their local environment and contribute to its development in the business community.

Pains / Challenges

  • Entrepreneurship is a discipline that is not taught nor practised in an adequate manner in schools, which results in the reluctance of young people in Serbia to a more active approach in seeking jobs or starts their own business.
  • Teachers are not adequately trained to ensure and develop entrepreneurial competencies of their students. 
  • School and local employers are not connected so that young people do not have a realistic idea of the world of work and everyday business.

Additional information:

Belgrade Educational Entrepreneurial Community (BEEC) presents an initiative that is focused on the acquisition of entrepreneurial knowledge, skills and attitudes of students at all levels of education, starting from primary school students through general education and vocational high school to university.

Promotion of entrepreneurial learning through accredited training  “Innovative strengthening competencies of teachers and associates with the aim of empowering entrepreneurial students" competencies, approved by The Institute for the Improvement of Education-  provider – Elementary School “Veselin Masleša”, over 250 school professionals have finished this training where entrepreneurial ideas were supported with LO’s and transformed into Lesson Plans.

Also round tables, workshops were organised – provider: Regional Centre Čačak in coordination with Elementary School “Isidora Sekulić”.

Cooperation with parents entrepreneurs, public institutions (theatres, the culture centres, Soko Stark company, Serbian Academy of Science Innovation, FEFA (Faculty of Economics, Finance and Administration) and The Institute for the Improvement of Education.

Success factors:

  • Strategic momentum: Several Serbian government strategies, that include domains of economy, education and youth policy, emphasize the importance of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial education at all levels.
  • International Support: Serbia participates in the work of the South East Europe Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (SEECEL) from the beginning. Part of BEEC institutions are also SEECEL pilot institutions.
  • The enthusiasm of teachers: Teachers involved in BEEC community showing remarkable enthusiasm in working with students, although it is often beyond the scope of their school duties.
  • The openness of local partners: local partners from the economic and political sphere are ready for cooperation and full support the initiatives that come from the school /university.
